Girls’ Open Learning Packs · Printing tips

Print it. Change it. Pass it on.

You do not need this page to run a session.

A pack works straight out of the printer. This page is for when you want to print many copies, change a pack for your own room, or know how the packs are made.

How to print a pack.

Every file is a PDF made for A4 paper. Print one page first and look at it before you print thirty.

  • 1

    Print on A4 at 100%

In the print window choose A4 and “100%” or “Actual size”. Do not choose “Fit to page”. It shrinks the lines the girls write on.

  • 2

    Black and white is enough

Nothing in any pack needs colour. Choose black and white, or greyscale, and save the ink.

  • 3

    One side for the girls

Print the learner sheets on one side only, one set for each girl. A pencil presses through. Your own plan and guide can be two-sided.

  • 4

    US Letter paper

Letter is shorter than A4. Choose Letter and “Fit to printable area”, or 94%. Then check that the bottom line of the first page is there.

  • 5

    Photocopy from the first print

Copy from the printed page, not from a copy of a copy. Wipe the glass. Copy at 100%. If the lines look faint, go one step darker, not all the way.

  • 6

    No printer at all

The session still works. Write the sheet on the board and read each instruction aloud. The girls rule their own lines on any paper.

Change it for your room.

You know your girls better than we do. Every pack is free to change. You do not need to ask us, and there is nothing to sign.

You may

  • Print it, copy it and hand it out.
  • Share it on a USB stick, in a WhatsApp group or on your own website.
  • Translate it into any language.
  • Change the names, the foods, the coins and the places to fit your room.
  • Cut it shorter, make it longer, or use one activity on its own.
  • Use it in work you are paid for.

Please keep

  • Keep the credit. One line that names the pack and says it came from Girls’ Open Learning Packs, potnis.org.
  • Name the licence. Write “CC BY 4.0” beside the credit.
  • Say if you changed it. One line is enough.

Each pack page has the credit line ready to copy. Do not say that we checked or approved your version.

How these are made, and what released means.

We write the English packs ourselves, with AI help, and one named person edits every page and puts their name to it before it goes up.

On this shelf that person is Nameet Potnis (Journalism, University of Mumbai), author and English editor.

A pack is released when three things are true: it is complete in English, it carries the name of the person who wrote and edited it, and it is on the shelf with the files you need to print it. That is the whole bar, and it is the one the counts on this site use.

Released does not mean a teacher outside our family has read it or run it with children. None has yet. When one is, their name, where they teach and what they said goes on that pack's own page, separately from this, and we will not fold it into the word released. Nothing here has been timed with a real group; the clocks are the likeliest thing to be wrong.

Other languages are made from the English by machine. That is how a shelf this small reaches past one language, and we would rather say so than wait for a second reader who may never come. We cannot read every language we publish and nobody has read these editions in their own language, so if something is wrong, unclear or just badly said in yours, write to [email protected] with the pack, the language and the line. We will fix it, and credit whoever found it.

This edition was translated from the English pack with AI. It may contain mistakes. Write to [email protected] if something should be fixed or said differently — we will update it.

On every non-English pack page and every non-English printable, in English and in the language of the edition.

Right now that is Arabic · AI translation from English , Bengali · AI translation from English , Gujarati · AI translation from English , Hindi · AI translation from English , Marathi · AI translation from English , Tamil · AI translation from English , Telugu · AI translation from English and Urdu · AI translation from English , on 96 packs. The language choice at the top of each pack page shows which languages it has.
